Twinkies sweep M’s @ Kingdome

8/24 - 8/26 - Kingdome, Seattle, WA
GAME 1 - Twins 6, Mariners 4

Omar_Vizquel_SEA Seattle tied it up with 3 big runs in the bottom of the 7th off of Mike Smithson and Rick Lysander and looked to have the momentum.  O'Brien singled home Edgar Martinez (double w/1 out) home for the first run of the inning.  O'B went to second on the throw to the plate and scored when Bill Haselman single him home and advanced to second the same way.  Omar Vizquel plated the final run of the inning with a RBI single too.  That momentum didn't last all that long.  Ron Washington looked to have hit a harmless 1 out single in the top of the 8th.  He went to second on a routine ground out to 3rd.  Curiously leadoff hitter Kirby Puckett wasKent_Hrbek_MIN given and intentional pass in order to face Kent Hrbek who singled home the go ahead run.  Mickey Hatcher followed with a single of his own to knock in Puckett for a key insurance tally.  Lysander, who also recorded the "blown save" got the win and Ron Davis got his first save of the season by fanning 2 of 3 hitters in a perfect 9th.

GAME 2 - Twins 9, Mariners 1
Randy_Bush_MIN With the score tied at one after four, the Twinkies exploded for 3 runs off of Mariner starter Chris Bosio (1-1, 3.38), when Randy Bush clobbered a 3 run shot to dead center.  Minnesota added solo insurance runs in the 7th and 8th innings, then blew the doors right off the barn with 3 in the top of the 9th to empty out the Kingdome.

GAME 3 - Twins 11, Mariners 0
Ken Schrom (2-1, 1.42) tossed a 3 hitter, but didn't need to beKen_Schrom_MIN that perfect as his offense exploded for 11 runs off of reliever Erik Hanson.  Mariner starter Randy Johnson had a 2 hitter of his own going, but rubbed up a blister with 2 out in the 4th and had to leave the game.  Johnson was examined by team physicians and pronounced ready to go for his next scheduled start.  Hanson came on board and immediately served up 3 runs with 2 out and was just an outright sieve.  Mariners skipper Michael Hopcroft was not around for the action during the series as he was attending to health issues.  We wish a speed recovery to him and his shoulder.
