Seattle takes two out of three from the Yankees

Game 1 - NY 5 Sea 4 at Yankee Stadium

clip_image002Both starting pitchers, Stan Bahnsen and Fleming, were excellent each allowing only 1 run each as the game went to extra innings tied at 1. The Yanks go to the bullpen and allow 3 runs in the top of the tenth, all unearned due to two infield errors. Can’t completely blame the NYY bullpen for the mess this time . But Seattle relievers Norm Charlton an Russ Swan made up for the Yankee errors by allowing 3 runs for the Yankees to tie. The Yankees won the game in the bottom of the twelfth on a wild pitch by Dwayne Henry scoring Bobby Murcer from third.

Game 2 - Seattle 6 NY 4 at Yankee Stadium

Mike Keckich who spot started for the Yankees did a good jobclip_image004 leaving after 7 innings with a 4-3 lead. The Yankees Though have been having trouble holding on to leads late in games. Terry Ley promptly blew his save opportunity allowing Seattle to tie the game at 4 by loading the bases and walking in Ken Griffey jr.. Which now led to another 12 inning game. Rich Delucia picked up the win and Dennis Powell the save based on a game winning double off the wall by Jay Buhner driving in Ken Griffey Jr.

Game 3 Seattle 9 NY 8 at the Kingdome

clip_image006Started like the other games in the series, a good pitching duel between Randy Johnson and Steve Kline. In the sixth Inning everything changed. Eight hits and six runs later the Mariners now look to be in charge of the game. But in the top of the seventh its Randy Johnson who tires allowing runners on first and third with one out, he leaves the game with Seattle still winning 6-0. Eric Platenberg replaces him and starts things rolling for the Yankees. By the time he and Brad Holman are done with the inning the Yankees have scored 8 runs on only 5 hits. Of Course for the Yankees the bullpen holding that lead will prove impossible. Seattle goes on to score 1 run in the seventh followed by 2 more in the eighth to win the game, giving Norm Charlton his fourth save.
