Braves take 2 of 3 from Bucs

8/28 - 8/29 - 3 Rivers Stadium - Pittsburgh, PA
GAME 1 - Pirates 4, Braves 1

JRay The poor Steel-town fans were forced to endure a 2 1/2 hour rain delay in the middle of the 5th inning.  Luckily for Johnny Sain that ensured that his work was done for the day.  By that point the Buc had cashed in and scored 4 runs (3 earned).  The saying is Spahn and Sain and pray for rain.  Today it could have been "instead of Sain, we should have had rain".  Pirate starter Mike Bielecki exited even earlier due to stiffness in his pitching shoulder.  Four Pirate relievers carried the day.  Don Robinson only pitched to 1 batter, but got the win.  The bottom of the first was Pittsburgh's big inning.  Bobby Bonilla singled with 2 out, as did Sid Bream.  Johnny Ray tripled off the left centerfield wall to score both runners.  Mike LaValliere single home Ray to make it 3-0.

GAME 2 - Braves 6, Pirates 2
Don Robinson received a cheap win yesterday, so it was onlyWCooper fitting that he got a well deserved loss today.  With the score tied at 2 Robinson allowed Boston to score in the 8th to gain a 1 run advantage.  Jim Gott came on in relief of Robinson in the 9th and allowed 3 runs, which put the game out of reach.  Pittsburgh's bullpen, which pitched so well yesterday, looked horrendous today.  Walker Cooper went 3 for 5 with an RBI and 2 runs scored for the Braves.  Skinny Barry Bonds was 2-4, which includes his 5th roundtripper of the year.

8/30 - Braves Field - Boston, MA
GAME 3 - Braves 6, Pirates 5

EbbaS Pittsburgh dominated the rubber game of the series in the early going, until they had to rely on their embattled bullpen, which gave the game away to the Braves.  The biggest offender was Don Robinson (2-3, 7.04), who lost his 2nd straight game.  Brian Fisher was good in his 6 innings on the hill (2 ER) prior to Robinson's entrance.  Braves catcher, Ebba St. Claire went 4 for 5 with a RBI and a run scored.  Bobby Bonilla (2-4) had 3 RBI and bumped his season average up to .345.  Boston's 4 run 8th inning was the game changer.
