Redlegs take 2 of 3 from Cubbies

Game 1 Cincinnati Reds vs Chicago Cubs
Wrigley Field Time 3:48  70°
Don_Newcombe_CIN The Reds jumped on the Cubs early scoring 5 run in the 1st 3 innings. It looked to be a runaway, but Chicago got 2 in the bottom of the 3rd to close it to 5-2. Another Red run in the 5th made it 6-2. The Cubs would score a run each in the 6th and 8th to make the final 6-4. Don Newcombe won his 3rd of the year to go 3-0. The story of the game was the Cubs inability to knock guys across the plate. Chicago out hit Cincy, 15-8 but stranded 12 men on base.

Game 2 Cincinnati Reds vs Chicago Cubs

Game 2 saw the Cubs score 2 in their half of the 1st as IvanIvan_DeJesus_CUB DeJesus led off with a walk and then promptly stole second. Back to back doubles by Dave Kingman and Mike Vail accounted for the Cubs runs. Cincy scored a run each in the 5th and 6th innings to tie it. A Gus Bell HR in the top of the 7th would put the Reds ahead, 3-2.  Mike Vail would lead off the 8th for the Cubs by smacking a double in the RF corner. Later in the inning, with 2 out, Steve Ontiveros would poke one in the LF corner, scoring Vail and it would be tied. Going in to the bottom of the 10th the Cubs would win it on 3 straight 2 out singles by Onteveros, Dilone and DeJesus.

Game 3 Chicago Cubs vs Cincinnati Reds
Crosley Field   Time 2:34   82°
Smoky_Burgess_CIN Mercifully, the umps called this one due to the storm that came rolling through Cincinnati in the 8th inning. A 75 minute rain delay occurred in the 3rd inning and a monsoon hit in the 8th. The Reds had the game well in hand, leading 6-1 when the rain hit. The Cubs were glad to pack it up and head back to Chicago. Harvey Haddix won again to move his recored to 4-1. As in the first 2 games the Cubs stand base runners. #0 runners were left on base over the 3 games. The star of the game was Smoky Joe Burgess, who smoked(pun intended) two deep drives over the left center wall, as the Reds took the rubber match, 6-1.
