M's take 2 of 3 from A's as all 3 games were shutouts

8/16 - Oakland Coliseum - A's 6, M's 0
Chuck Dobson was masterful in striking out 10 and tossing a complete game 4 hitter. A Dick Green 2 run shot in the bottom of the first gave the A's a 2-0 lead, which was never in jeopardy. Both Green and Sal Bando went 2-4. "How could you trade" Jay Buhner had 3 of the M's 4 hits, but never advanced past 2nd.

8/17 - Oakland Coliseum - M's 2, A's 0
Chris Bosio threw 2 hit/shutout ball over the first 7 innings before giving way to Norm Charlton (8th) and Jeff Nelson (9th) in a combined shutout (4 hit) effort. Catfish Hunter was the hard luck loser. Hunter went the distance and gave up only 2 runs, but had no run support. the M's broke the ice in the 3rd when Rich Amaral singled home Mike Felder. The added a second run the following inning when Tino Martinez hit a solo shot. Two of Oakland's 4 hits came off the bat of centerfielder Rich Monday. Oakland blew chances to score in both the 7th and 8th. In the 7th they had bases loaded with 2 out. Hunter came to bat instead of getting lifted for a PH. Although Hunter is a very good hitting pitcher, the odds might have been better if a regular bat off the bench came up. In the 8th with runners on 1st and 2nd and nobody out Norm Charlton got Danny Cater to hit into a routine 6-4-3 DP.

8/18 - Oakland Coliseum - M's 3, A's 0
The rubber match featured a 3rd consecutive shutout and the second in a row by the M's. While the first one, by Bosio, might have been unexpected, nobody was shocked when "the big unit" Randy Johnson fanned 9 and allowed only 4 hits over 8 strong innings. Charlton came on in the 9th and easily notched his 3rd save of the season. Seattle scored all 3 of their runs in the 4th inning when Jay Buhner hit a 2 run shot scoring Ken Griffey Jr. who walked to lead off the frame. Four batters later Mike Felder tripled home catcher Dave Valle. That 3rd inning mini-meltdown was the only black mark on the record of A's starter Jim Nash, who rebounded from his first start of the season where he was knocked out of the box in the first inning. The A's lone chance to score came in the 7th when they had the bases loaded, but Johnson blew away Rick Monday with 3 straight pitches that hit 99 on the Juggs gun.
