Motown takes 2 of 3 from Beantown

August 12 at Fenway Park
Jim Bunning only gave up two hits and only one earned tun but it was too much enough as the BoSox capitalized on what they got. Charley "Paw Paw" Maxwell doubled home Al Kaline in the first to open the scoring. In the second, Billy Goodman was safe on Reno Bertoia's error. With one out Johnny Lipon walked and both scored on Mel Parnell's triple. Parnell came home on Faye Throneberry's ground out and the Sahx led 3-1. The Tigers could only manage one more run as Parnell kept the Tiger hitters in check throughout the game. Red Sox 3 Tigers 2

August 13 at Fenway Park.
Hoot Evers homered in the first to open the scoring. In the bottom of the second, George Kell opened the frame with a single. He scored on Vern Stephens double and Stephens came home on Sid Hudson's single. The Tigers struck back in the third. Jim Finnigan singled and scored on Frank Bolling's triple off the Green Monster. Frank Bolling scored on Kaline's single. But the Sahx came right back in their half of the frame. Dick Gernert singled with one out and scored on Goodman's double. Kaline then dropped a Kell flyball allowing Goodman to score to give the Sahx a 5-2 lead. In the 4th, Frank House led off with a homer to cut the lead to 2. In the fifth, Harvey Kuenn led off with a double and scored on Maxwell's single. The Red Sox pushed the lead back to two on singles by Stephens and Dom DiMaggio and a ground out by Evers. The Tigers got one back in the 7th when Kuenn again led off with a double, moved to third on a Kaline ground out and scored on a Maxwell fly to shallow right. In the 8th, House led off and was safe on an error by replacement shortstop Jimmy Piersall. Johnny Groth pinchhit for Bill Tuttle and singled. Finigan moved the runners up with a sacrifice bunt and pinchhitter Bill Taylor hit a sacrifice fly to bring in the tying run. Bolling followed with a single to score Groth and the Tigers held a 7-6 lead. That was the way it finished as Frank Lary got the win and Lou Sleater the save. Sid Hudson took the loss. August 14 at Fenway Park.
The Sahx struck first in the 2nd inning with a two run homer by Dick Gernert. Del Wilber doubled and scored on a Johnny Lipon single. Dizzy Trout held the Tigers in check until the 7th when House led off with a single and went to 2nd when DiMaggio misplayed the ball. House went to third on a Dave Philley single and scored when Groth, again pinchhitting for Tuttle, singled with Philley taking third. Paul Foytack squeezed Philley home and the Tigers were down 3-2. The Tigers tied the game on consecutive singles by Ray Boone, House and Philley. Bill Taylor led off the ninth with a pinchhit single, went to second on a Bolling sacrifice and scored on Al Kaline's single. Pauk Foytack got the win, Harry Byrd the save, and Ike DeLock took the loss. Tigers 4 Red Sox 3
