Resurgent Angels sweep M’s

9/12 - Edison Field - 3:43,  81ø - 5mph Out to CF
GAME 1 – Angels  10, Mariners 5

troy glaus_ANA A 6 run 7th inning broke up a game that was tied at 4 each.  Seattle wasted a 3 for 5 game from Griffey Jr.  Rich DeLucia blew the lead and was charged with 7 runs in 2 innings of awful work.  Troy Glaus finally hit his 2nd homer of the season and Garrett Anderson went 3 for 5 with 2 runs scored.

9/13 - 3:43,  85ø - 20mph R to L
GAME 1 – Angels  7, Mariners 5

The resurgent Angels were up 5-4 going into the bottom of theAlan_Levine_ANA 7th when they exploded for 3 big runs to take a commanding lead.  Respective starters, Scott Schoeneweis and Fleming both gave up 4 runs in around 5 innings worth of work.  Not exactly what you’d call a “quality start”.  Alan Levine came on board in the 6th for the Angels and tossed 3 perfect innings to get the win.  Brett Boone went 3 for 3 with 3 RBI in a losing effort.  Glaus hit his 3rd homer and went 2-3 with 3 RBI’s in what Anaheim fans can only hope is the start of his resurgence.  One concern for the Angels in this big win would be the fact that closer Troy Percival couldn’t shut the door and had to be replace by Holtz, who actually wound up with the save.

GAME 1 – Angels  10, Mariners 5

Randy_Johnson_SEA After too score-fests the fans in Orange County were treated to a good old fashioned pitcher’s duel.  Randy Johnson, who has been battling to stay healthy, was outstanding.  Johnson (3-1, 0.96) gave up 1 run, fanned 9 and walked NONE in a complete game effort.  Johnson’s only problem on the day was his offense.  It didn’t exist.  A combination of 3 Angel pitchers (Bottenfield, Pote and Percival) gave up only 5 hits and didn’t allow run.  That spelled doom for the Big Unit, who even if he was perfect still wouldn’t have gotten a win.  The lone run of the game came in the Angels half of the 6th.  Mo Vaughn, who’s stock has plummeted so much so that he’s hitting 9th, led off the inning with a double off the right field wall.  Darin Erstad singled sharply to the right to advance big MoMo_Vaughn_ANA to 3rd.  Two batters later Garrett Anderson lifted a fly ball to center that carried Griffey back to the warning track.  The ball was hit so deep even the hefty Vaughn was able to walk home.  Troy Percival gave up a leadoff hit to Jay Buhner to lead off the 9th and with 1 out gave up a clean single to Mike Blowers.  After his ineffective performance the previous game everyone in the house was nervous.  Those nerves were calmed when Percival got Brett Boone to ground into a tailor made 6-4-3 game ending DP.
