Chisox sweep Bombers, gain 1st in AL West

Chicago sweeps the Yanks in the three game series.  That leaves them 1 game ahead of Oakland, who lost 2 of 3 at Seattle.  For the Yankees realistically it is over.  They can be no better than 4 behind multiple teams in the wild card race.

Game 1      CHI 6 NYY 2

Ken_Henderson_CHW Dick_Allen_CHW Jorge_Orta_CHW Jim_Kaat_CHW What was a 2-2 tie was broke open in the bottom of the fifth  when Chicago scored 4 runs.  The way they did it though was bad omen for the Yanks for the rest of the series.  Ken Henderson, Dick Allen, and Jorge Orta with back to back to back homeruns.  That was more than enough for Jim Kaat to hang on for a complete game win, giving him a  4-4 record and 3.34 ERA.

Game 2      CHI 15 NYY 7

Bucky_Dent_CHW Chicago proved its dominance early and often in this game.  By the end of the third inning they were leading 12 - 0 on eight base hits.  Another three homeruns in this game for Chicago for 6 on the series so far.  Obviously the Yanks could use some batters like White Sox have,  maybe just a Bucky Dent (.326) replacing Gene Michael (.154) would help.  Pitching was not too noteworthy, other than Jorge Orta picking up a win for pitching 1/3 of an inning when Chicago was already leading 12-0.

Game 3      CHI 10 NYY 4Ed_Herrmann_CHW

Game 3 was the  Ed Herrmann show for the White Sox.   Herrmann hit homeruns in his first three at bats, helping Chicago cruise to an easy 10-4 victory.  For the series the White sox hitting decimated the Yankee pitching to the tune of  9 Hrs, 31 runs, 42 hits and 13 walks.
