SD bit the big one here.....lost all 3.
Sheff did OK in Game 1 - but was not really a factor in Game 2 or Game 3. In Game 3, Drysdale pitched another complete game shutout to lower his ERA to 1.08 and earn a 6-3 record - he faced only 29 batters, giving up 2 hits and 0 walks.
He should be considered for the NL CY Young.
Gary Sheffield held on to win the NL Triple Crown. The first such accolade ever in KOD. Sheff’s final #’s are:
BA: .352 – 14 points higher than Tony Gwynn
HR: 14 – 2 more than Barry Bonds (12)
RBI: 40 – 9 more than Bonds (31)
Don Drysdale surely made a case for he Cy Young award. His nearest competitors are: Don Newcombe (6-0, 1.80, 16 k’s) and Tom Seaver (7-3, 1.93, 76 k’s). Voting should be awfully close.
